How To Listen To The TV Really Loudly While Your Baby Sleeps

By Adam (Dad)

Shhhh, the baby is sleeping! I am sure you have all heard that one before. Nothing kills the joys of thousands of dollars of stereo and tv equipment faster than a sleeping baby and a tired wife. The good news is that there is an easy solution that you probably will kick youself for not thinking of sooner (I did).
Say goodbye to close captions and lip reading, with a few simple audio wires and adapters that you can pick up at amazon or the local radioshack you’ll be back in business in minutes.

Wired
I have a set of noise canceling headphones and a nice stereo receiver. All I needed was a 20ft headphone cord with a plug for normal headphones and the big plug for my stereo (very technical terminology, I know). You can get it all with the Maxell HP-20 Headphone Extension Cord with Adapters. It even comes with a splitter so you can plug your wife’s headphones in too. $10 and you’re in business. If you don’t have a stereo receiver or a headphones output jack from your TV, you can get a RCA to headphones jack and plug it into the TV or cable box directly. That will set you back another $3.
So while you might not get surround sound, at least you can enjoy your TV show or movie on your terms at your sound levels.
Wireless
For the more sophisticated Dad with deep pockets, you can pick up a set of wireless headphones. I don’t own a set so I can’t honestly recommend one over another. The Sony and Sennheiser seem to get good reviews based on my initial research. Let us know what you find if you go this route. You can take a look at a few in our Amazon store.
