on the first day we stopped here for lunch,

the beginning of the gobi

entrance to a former buddhist temple that was destroyed by the communists

where the temple used to be

oovoo's on the rocks behind the temple

that white thing is our car. this is where we camped the first night

sunset, day 1

urban nomad

this was another temple destroyed by the communists. a small lake surrounds it but currently it was all marsh.

an old chinese style building. it was completely decrepit.

an old mining town in the distance

gers in the desert

a basketball court in some random gobi town

red dry dirt or maybe clay? walking on it sounded like walking on potato chips

i found this really pretty.

camping out, night 2

our public bath. an open water pipe. we washed here and got our drinking water as well. cows were also coming and going to drink here.
Flaming Cliffs of Bayanzag.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_Cliffs

cute little baby sheep

night 3 sleeping area

vultures in the distance

desert warrior

sand dunes and gers in the distance

and another flat tire (this was #4 i think)

camel crossing

me on a camel

on a camel with the sun setting

camels are one of my new favorite animals

walking sand dunes at sunset

my prints

lines in the sand. reminded me of waves coming in the shore

sunset, camel, me. done

there was a nice german couple with me who you can see in the distance on a dune peak

who doesn't love a camel toe? :P

night falls outside our ger. it felt like something out of star wars

the son at the ger where we slept day 4.

I love how they just pass the baby off to the odd foreign white guy. but it works.

delicious dinner. bread things, sheeps organs and a rice mutton gruel thing. washed down with salt milk tea

dead camel in the distance

this family fed us one day. very cute

they had three cute kittens. one of which reminded me of the great cat named stiles!
I do love buuz! lamp dumplings. also next to the plate is some camel cheese.

kitten momma love

randomaly, in the middle of the desert was a lush and beautiful garden

camel walking in the distance. cliche but beautiful in person

dead horse. just bones

we stayed with this family for a night. i loved this carpet/mural

the empty sleeping bag is mine. so it was driver, me, grandpa, 3 grandkids, momma and then other side of the bed (not in picture) was grandma. other kids slept in the gers next to us.

the kind grandma and grandpa who housed us for the night

breakfast. fresh cream, mutton gruel dish, and fresh cheese curds

they gave me a bag of their fresh curds since i liked them so much

local biker gang... not really, i just liked the look of the group.

a family who gave us directions and airag. they take pictures so serious in mongolia, notice the lack of smiles.

we picked up hitchhikers on the way home. they had fresh airag. the guy on the right also stole my shirt (i was riding topless). Jerk!
